Layout - Phase IIITo my surprise, the first time I carried the new building over to where it used to live and placed it on top of the six old tracks, it didn’t line up with the old six tracks at all. I new I had a new problem. How could I modify the existing tracks to fit the new building? How could I match the new eleven stalls superimposed on top of the old six stalls? The solution came after three attempts and resulted in a simple change. I bought an inexpensive piece of cardboard at a gift shop for about $2.50. I then positioned the new 11-stall structure on top of this cardboard. Using a black thin magic marker, I traced each individual track stall on the cardboard, without moving the structure. Once finished, I cut out the inside portions where the tracks would reside, allowing enough cardboard in front, back and around the sides to hold the pattern in place. I proceeded to verify how far off the original tracks would be with the entire cardboard template. Now came the hard part, readjusting the old tracks, and then adding the new tracks. |
